Doug Turet is a Renaissance Man - or, as an old friend of his once put it, "a Jack of many trades, and Master of several".
When he was 5, Doug felt an urge to look downward, and the questions that arose in him led to an unusually serious study of geology & mineralogy. At "the ripe old age" of 8, he became the youngest member of the Westchester Mineral & Gem Society, and by the age of 10, he was already leading guided lecture-tours of local quarries for geology classes from Yale, Columbia, NYU, SUNY, Hofstra and Western CT State Universities, and geologists from The New York Museum of Natural History and The Smithsonian Institute. At 14, he began introducing elementary & high school kids to the wonders that lay beneath their feet, writing and giving away copies of a primer on the subject, along with personally-collected (and labeled) rock and mineral specimens, to help illustrate key points for them.
That same year, he taught himself to cut gemstones, marketing them to all the jewelers and silversmiths he could reach within an afternoon's bicycle ride, which was documented when his interview by author Alex Shoumatoff was published in the latter's documentary, "Westchester: Portrait of a County". Later, Doug used these skills to build businesses, first for the "Dungeons & Dragons" craze, then for the late-70's gem bead craze, and finally, for the fine jewelry market, designing both gemstone cuts, themselves (nearly 300 different patterns), and some of the jewelry that featured and embraced them for regional jewelers, eventually garnering both local and national awards for the latter and publication of more than a dozen of the former, in international magazines. In 1987, he earned his certification in Diamonds from the GIA; in 2010, his GJ (Graduate Jeweler) degree from the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, in San Francisco, and in 2010, the Australian Faceting Challenge (an international gem cutting competition) selected one of his designs as a test of its entrants' technical proficiencies.
Along the way, Doug also managed to become a professional musician (drummer/percussionist, composer & lyricist), studying under Ben Gramm, jazz-fusion legend Lenny White and the late, great Session Master, Gary Chester. His unwillingness to limit himself to a single musical genre led to performances and recordings with rock, jazz, R&B/soul, Gospel, Klezmer, Island, reggae, country, blues & folk artists and theatrical orchestras, and he currently records and performs in the Greater Boston area with the original Alt-Rock group "Tall Enough", jazz saxophonist Rob Harrow, and avant-Folk singer/guitarist, Glenn Pettit. In the spaces in-between all of these, he found time to become an internationally-published author, photographer and craft business consultant, a Mentor to the online members of the colored gem and jewelry industry (1996-2007), and, at long last, a husband and father.
Throughout all of the above has run the consistent thread of a Spiritual quest for broader insights and deeper understanding, accompanied by profound loves of learning, abstracting, sharing, mentoring, and creating more joy and beauty in the world. These eventually led to thirsts for helping others to overcome their own traumas and self-limiting beliefs, and for divining new ways of framing challenging circumstances to reveal whole new vistas of possibility. This long and arduous process began with comparative studies of several Eastern and Western religions and philosophies, in the early 1970's; psychic/paranormal activity, meditation and hypnosis, and a laundry list of self-help methods, in the 80's and 90's, and, eventually, led to his study of, and subsequent Certification in, several of Access Consciousness' healing modalities, including The Bars, Cellular Memory, MTVSS, and The Access Energy Facelift. This educational journey (like most of those he's enjoyed, throughout his 50 years) is both holistic, abstractive and integrative, and will likely continue to breathe, evolve and generate warmth and light for as long as he does.
