The Nest is our newest room. It is on the second floor, with plush carpeting and 3 large windows, it's like being in a warm tree house!

What is Yoga?

The word yoga means “union.” This “union” may be of mind, body and spirit, or self with true self, or breath with movement: the meaning is determined by the seeker. In the West, yoga is interchangeable with “Hatha yoga,” as it is called in India, where yoga was originated thousands of years ago. Hatha yoga is the physical aspect of yoga, the care of the body, often through breath and movement (called “asana” in India). The original meaning of yoga has 8 parts to it—the eight “limbs” of yoga. The eight limbs of yoga involve mental and spiritual wellbeing. Hatha yoga, only one of the eight limbs of yoga, relates to the physical wellbeing.

If I am new to yoga or other types of movement, how do I know which class to go to or which style to pick?

Read our Yoga Description and Movement Description pages. These list all of the different classes we offer. If you want to learn more about a particular class, click on the class title, and you will go to a page that gives you more detail about that particular class. Learning more about the instructors can be helpful too. It is important to find a person that is a good match for you. Got to the Instructors page and see what they offer and if you wish, you can call and speak with a particular instructor to have your questions answered.

We also offer a ten class card for you to sample different styles of yoga or movement classes. This allows you to have a variety of experiences and then settle into what is right for you.

Call us if you have any questions or need help finding a good match for you—(508) 315-8088.

Are yoga mats required?

Yoga mats are not required. They provide some grip to prevent slipping, but you can do yoga without a mat, and use a blanket or towel, when you lie down in a class (some poses and movement are done while lying on the floor). We have plenty of mats and blankets available for your use (at no charge), if you don’t bring your own.

What should I wear to class?

Whether you are trying out Pilates, Tai Chi, Zumba, or Yoga, wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, and not too thick and bulky. Layers are helpful too, so that you can remain comfortable even as you warm up with movement, or cool down with relaxation. Please note, that all yoga and movement classes (except Zumba) are without shoes. However, if you need to wear shoes, for whatever reason, please bring shoes that are clean on the bottom, or wipe them off well, before entering the room.
